Picture your day
You turn off the highway and the noise goes with it. Gravel, then trees, then a house with the door already open and tea already made. Someone takes your coat. Nobody asks what you do for work.
You move your body slowly, with nowhere to be afterward. You eat a meal at a table where the conversation feels just as nourishing as the food. You get paint on your hands in the afternoon, the way you did when you were nine.
Then the sauna, or the hot tub, or a seat by the fire. Whatever the day is asking of you. And as the light goes gold, you lie down on the floor with eleven other people and let the sound waves + frequencies from Riya's sound bath wash over you.
You drive home in the dark, quieter inside than you've been in months, or maybe you carpool with friends and carry the meaningful conversation all the way home.
Why We're Gathering
Re-Connecting to Our Inner Creative Visionary
Most of us file creativity under hobby... the thing you'd get to if there were ever enough time in the day. But I'm here to argue that making time and space for creativity is one of the most powerful things you can do.
It's where the thing that's been keeping you stuck comes unstuck... usually sideways... while your hands are busy and you've stopped trying to solve it.
It's also one of the only hours where you're fully in the room, instead of half-drafting a reply in your head. Researchers at Drexel found that 45 minutes of making something lowered cortisol in about three quarters of people — and prior art experience made no difference at all.
It's actually really good to make bad art! To try something new, be bad at it on purpose, and carry on anyway.
You try a color, hate it, and put another one over it. Each mistake teaches you something and shapes what you make next.
Sticking with the process loosens something over time — and not just in your painting. In everything you've been avoiding because you might not do it well.
It also puts you back in touch with your own taste. What you reach for, what you keep, what you'd never pick in a hundred years. Small things, maybe — but there's beauty in noticing the details and preferences that make you, you!
So the next time someone hands you a paintbrush, don't freeze. Accept the invitation to play without judgment. That's what we'll be doing together this October at Zen Den - will you join us & liberate your inner creative visionary?!

Meet Your Hosts

Amanda Grover
Yoga teacher and the storyteller behind Storytellers Grove. Women's circles are what led her into building a creative life, and she's been making rooms where people can put the performance down ever since. She believes you're far more interesting than your job title, and she'd like to hear about the rest of it.

Riya Gupta
The heart behind Zen Den Retreats, five wooded acres near the Centennial Trail with a salt-wall sauna, a hot tub under cover, and a fire pit that's seen a lot of good conversation. Her sound baths are the reason people stay on the floor long after the last bowl goes quiet.
